Snowflake Powwow information

This year, Snowflake Powwow will be held at Camp Dodge on March 2-4. All Arrowmen are encouraged to join us in the preparation of another year in our lodge! Come join us for trainings, ceremonies, and our highlight event on Saturday night, the powwow!

Trainings on a variety of topics include, “Got my Sash, now what?” and the meaning of our ceremonies. In addition to this, we will also host the first annual “Magic, the Gathering” tournament and plans are in the works for an indoor Winter Olympics!

The Trading Post will also be open to sell items including event patch sets, your favorite treasures, and even NEW items from Winter Banquet!

There will be a very short LECM on Saturday for Chapter Chief and Advisors.

To gain access to Camp Dodge, ALL DRIVERS WILL NEED TO BRING A PHOTO I.D. The entrance to Camp Dodge is off NW 70th Ave. in Johnston. Once on base, there will be signs for you to follow. 

This year is off to another great start! Spread the word, and we hope to see you there!

Winter Banquet registration now open

Greetings Arrowmen!

The New Year is here, and with it, we are celebrating the past and preparing for the future in one of our lodge’s biggest events, Winter Banquet!

This year’s event will be held at the Holiday Inn near the Des Moines Airport (6111 Fleur Dr.) on Saturday, January 6th, 2018. All Arrowmen, and their families, are encouraged to join us as the lodge will recognize our new Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil Honor members, and new Eagle Scouts. In addition to this, we will also recognize several individuals and chapters with a multitude of awards, such as the Arrowmen of Achievement and Founder’s Awards. This Winter Banquet will be a special one as we will have an important guest speaker attending!

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the opening ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m.

E&P Training

If you are an E&P officer, or are an Arrowman looking for a leadership opportunity and to learn more about Elections and Promotions, the Mitigwa Lodge will be hosting an E&P training at the Maytag Scout Center on Saturday, November 19th from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

NOAC 2018 patch designs


NOAC 2018 is right around the corner. That means that the Mitigwa Lodge is in need of a patch design for this event! Our lodge has had a long history of creating patches so extravagant, that other lodges have traded heavily for that pocket flap!

We are opening up the doors for you to submit in your best artwork! The only requirements for this patch is that it must include “NOAC 2018” and “Indiana University” somewhere on the patch. Otherwise, we encourage you to produce something that has never been seen before!

A template is attached to this post below if you would like something to draw your design on.

Arrowman of Achievement and Founder’s Award nominations

The Mitigwa Lodge is accepting nominations for both the Arrowman of Achievement and the Founder’s Award! These nominations will be voted on, and these awards will be presented at our annual Winter Banquet event! Which will take place on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at Airport Holiday Inn in Des Moines.

NOAC 2018 registration

The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is the largest event of the Order of the Arrow. Arrowmen from across every region of the country will travel to this six day adventure and have the opportunity of a lifetime! NOAC will feature a variety of training’s and activities led by the National Officers to give participants a more enjoyable experience. 

The next NOAC will take place on July 3o – August 4, 2018 at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. The Mitigwa Lodge has been allocated space for 24 youth and 8 adults. The non-refundable deposit for those that attend will be $150. The total cost of the trip will be no more than $700, which will include transportation and meals on the road. The lodge will do some fundraising to help with some of the costs.

Prairie Winds: 

Location– First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown (202 W Main Street)
Time– 7:00 p.m.
Date– 2nd Tuesday of every month (1st meeting will be Tuesday, September 12).
**Important- September’s meeting will be in Marshalltown. Future meeting locations are TBD
Twin Rivers:
Location– Fred Maytag II Scout Center in Des Moines (6123 Scout Trail Dr.)
Time– 7:00 p.m.
Date– 2nd Thursday of every month (1st meeting will be Thursday, September 14).
Woodland Trails:
Location- Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa (201 N. Market Street).
Time– 7:00 p.m.
Date- 2nd Thursday of every month (1st meeting will be Thursday, September 14).
If you are unsure about which chapter meeting you need to attend, please check out the attachment so you know which meeting to go to. 
It is crucial that you, as a member in the Order of the Arrow, attend these meetings as frequently as you can. During these chapter meetings, there will be discussions about chapter operations, ceremony teams, elections for troops, and a variety of other projects. However it is not just about business, there are typically food and activities to partake in, and meetings usually do not go over an hour.

Lodge Leadership Development Conference (LLDC)

The Mitigwa Lodge hosts its annual LLDC (Lodge Leadership Development Conference) in early November after every election cycle. This conference is a great opportunity for Chapter Chiefs, Vice-Chiefs, Chairmen, and other members to learn about their new positions and meet the lodge officers and advisers. 

The event usually begins around 8:00 a.m. and ends with an LECM (Lodge Executive Committee Meeting) taking place around 4:00 p.m. More details for the event will come out as it approaches. Our next LLDC is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th at the Fred Maytag II Scout Center.

Cub Scout Fun Day

The Mitigwa Lodge will be helping the council hosts its annual Cub Scout Fun Day on October 7th, 2017. We will have a google document available soon for sign up. 

We encourage any Ordeal members seeking to attain their Brotherhood workday to be at this event and help out that Saturday. There will be plenty of things to do.
